As "Uncle Vanya" Hampton Hill
Playhouse 2007
I spent over twenty years working in education,
first as a school-teacher and then as a college
lecturer and tutor. I was simultaneously a trade
union negotiator and involved in
middle-management. During this time I became
increasingly aware that students' pastoral care
deserved much more attention than was being
offered. When my college amalgamated with
another, the opportunity for voluntary
redundancy became available and I seized the
chance to retrain as a counsellor and
psychotherapist.

Since 2000, I have been in private practice,
working with clients of all ages from 12 years to
73, both sexes and a wide range of ethnic
groups and sexual orientations.

My employment background has made me
particularly sensitive to academic and
work-related problems, and the difficulties faced
by young people. Personal circumstances have
allowed me to develop my awareness and
understanding of relationship and family
problems, dealing with long-term illness and
bereavement and mental health issues. I have
additional interest in and experience of working
with eating disorders, phobias, compulsions
and the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

In addition to my two degrees and my
therapeutic qualifications, I have the LRAM in
Speech and Drama which is immensely useful
in helping clients to improve their
communication skills and enhance their
self-confidence. I continue to work in film and
television, with occasional stage appearances.

I trained in Couple Counselling with Relate and
worked at their Wimbledon and Woking
Branches. I was featured in the BBC2/Relate
documentary "The Trouble with Love and Sex".I
undertook research at Manchester Metropolitan
University regarding the value of psychotherapy
for those who have experienced domestic
violence and read my MSc under the legendary
Windy Dryden at Goldsmiths College,
deepening and improving my application of
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Currently, I maintain private clinics in Egham,
Wimbledon and Marylebone in addition to my
work at The Priory Hospital, Woking, where I
see both Priory patients and private clients.
